About ERF
Epistemic Research Frameworks (ERF) is an independent research institute devoted to conceptual, methodological, and foundational inquiry across disciplines.
ERF provides a setting for dialogue among researchers whose questions and approaches may differ. Participation does not require adherence to a shared theory or a single method. Exchanges examine the assumptions and standards through which knowledge is developed and justified, while allowing substantive differences between research traditions to remain open to discussion.
The institute’s programme is developing through the work and exchanges of its fellows and affiliated scholars. Individual projects contribute to this direction without defining the limits of the institute’s inquiry.
Mission
ERF’s mission is to support the examination of the conceptual frameworks and methodological commitments through which knowledge is produced, interpreted, and evaluated.
The institute encourages dialogue across disciplines to clarify shared questions and better understand substantive disagreements. This work does not require research traditions to adopt a single vocabulary or make consensus a condition of exchange.
ERF seeks to support independent lines of inquiry and create opportunities for collaboration where researchers’ questions and interests intersect.
Research
Research associated with ERF examines the conceptual frameworks, interpretive practices, and methodological commitments that shape different fields of knowledge. Questions of interest include:
- How concepts and models define objects of inquiry and guide interpretation.
- How evidence, explanation, and justification are understood and assessed in different research traditions.
- How knowledge is organized, represented, and communicated.
- How concepts and methods change when they move between disciplines or contexts.
- How historical, experiential, and practical contexts inform inquiry.
Contributions may take the form of conceptual analyses, historical studies, or investigations within particular fields. Methods are chosen according to the questions and materials under examination. Work across these approaches may reveal complementary insights as well as substantive disagreements.
These questions indicate possible points of connection rather than a fixed research agenda. The institute’s programme remains open to development through the contributions of its fellows and affiliated scholars.

Knowledge and Inquiry
The Canadian Journal of Knowledge and Inquiry is an open-access scholarly journal published by Epistemic Research Frameworks (ERF), devoted to the conditions under which knowledge is produced, interpreted, and justified. Its editorial home is in Canada; its scope is international.
The first issue is in preparation. The journal’s editorial policies, peer review procedures, and author guidelines are available on its dedicated website.
